There is currently no fee to lodge an employment tribunal claim or attend a hearing, but you may pay for legal advice, solicitor or barrister representation, expert reports, travel, copying and time away from work. Each side normally pays its own legal costs, although a tribunal can make a costs order in limited situations, such as unreasonable conduct, so losing does not usually mean paying your employer’s solicitor. You must generally complete Acas Early Conciliation before submitting a claim.
